Composition is one of the key steps in food photography, especially for those who take photos with their phones. You don't need to adjust the parameters too much on your phone, but you have to think carefully about how to arrange food in the limited space.

1.) Vertical composition

Vertical composition means to put food vertically in the photo.

This technique displays the beautiful lines of the food and can be used for photographing macaroons, biscuits or other food that can be vertically placed.

For vertical composition, you can consider adding some human elements to your photo, such as holding biscuits on an open palm, which will make your photo look more fun.

You can also photograph food from a high angle to emphasize the lines.

2.)Diagonal composition

Diagonal composition means to put the subject along either of the diagonal lines in a photo. This composition technique makes the food look three-dimensional and extensible.

When photographing food, you can place it along one of the two diagonal lines or tilt your phone at an angle of 45 degrees.

However, diagonal composition requires you to pay attention to the objects placed around the food. Don't highlight those objects, or else your photo will look terrible.

4.)Story-telling

Social Media serves as a record of your daily life. Therefore, when you photograph food with your phone, you don't always have to think about how to make it look better than it really is. Sometimes, you can add a few more elements to make viewers feel as if they were present on the scene.

Now, you can try adding some human elements to make your photo look vivid and lively.

Or you can match the food with some other elements to make viewers associate the photo with your life.

We believe you have an eye for beauty, but you can't carry a camera on you at all times. Therefore, the phone tucked in your pocket will become a powerful tool for photography.

Unlike a camera, the aperture or shutter of your phone can't be adjusted at will, but you can still use it to take amazing food photos through ingenious composition and excellent control of light.
